Welcome to The Missing Drink!

Niall Thomas  I’m a Cardiff based Beer Writer, Beer Drinker and Beer Whisperer. I am a proud proponent of craft beer and the Founder and Editor of The Missing Drink. Follow me on Twitter & Instagram @TheMissingDrink

I’ve annoyed friends, family and strangers with picky orders at the bar since even before legal drinking age. I started a beer blog after finding that I wasn’t alone in my fussiness and after I found a magical place that curated ranges as if I’d chosen them myself. Once I was of legal age, these “bottle shops” and “craft beer bars” became my happy place.

From humble beginnings as a way to record beer reviews, to a focus on the business of beer and the craft brewing industry, The Missing Drink has been my way of contributing to the industry and the community since 2013.

Though primarily a beer blog, toes are dipped into cocktails, spirits and soft drinks from time to time (not literally). I have a love of all things drinkable and seek out the weird, wonderful and well-made in the world of beverages.

Particular areas of interest are crowdfunding, buyouts and the business of beer. My curiosity was sparked by a trip to Guinness’ St. James’ Gate Brewery in my teens, where I became interested in the unique marketing material from the brewery’s past. From there, I have become very interested in the Beer Wars of the 20th Century between the world’s most famous beer brands, the growth of megabrewers through aquisitions, and the multi-million pound crowdfunding schemes by craft brewers.

I am also passionate about beer’s ancient history and its future as a real rival to fine wine in the best restaurants in the world. From wild beverage to the drink of choice with fine food, beer has come a long way. I’m so intrigued by this astonishing history that I’m writing a book about it.

If you would like me to write for you, I accept commissions for guest posts and magazine articles. If you’d like to chat about great beer, have an idea for a post or want to draw my attention to another great beer blog, give me a shout! Cheers!
